We’re deep into our restoration of this Jaguar XK140 Roadster. Once the body was media blasted, we found the body was in horrible condition, suffering from rust and accident damage that had been very poorly repaired. Many panels were overlapped and bondoed over to achieve the look they were after. Unfortunately, this will all need to be repaired—and that’s no small task to say the least. For the body panels, we’ve turned to our good friend Wray Schelin of Pro Shaper Sheet Metal. Wray makes the best replacement panels for XK Jaguars—and is a great guy to deal with.
At this point, we have the chassis completely restored to better-than-new condition. The frame and all its components have been sandblasted and powder coated in a semi-gloss black. Powder coating is the best way to go as it’s very durable and does a much better job of protecting against rust and corrosion than paint does. Everything on this chassis is either new or rebuilt and ready for the body to be mounted.
The next step for us is to get the body ready to go and mount it to the chassis prior to paint to assure that the fit and finish of all the panels is correct. As you can tell, we’ve still got a long way to go, so make sure and check back and watch as this car comes back together and back to life!
We’ve still got along way to go, so if you’re interested in following our progress, head on over to our Facebook page and give us a like. Restoration project update announcements will be delivered right to your newsfeed! And as always, comments and questions are always welcome.
