The first car I bought after high school was a silver 1959 Triumph TR3, but ended up red. As I recall, I did more repair and towing of the car than actually driving it because I was young. I thought you could just jump into a British Sports car and drive it! After a few years, and a few more British vehicles, I now know better!
After several years of stop and go adventures in the TR3, I acquired an MGA and then an MGC. A few years and one wife later, I got a hold of an MGB GT, then a Sunbeam Tiger, and a 1972 TR6. That’s the car that got me rolling again. I have learned so much more about fixing them in the last fifteen years. So to understate, you do not just hop in your British sports car and go. A dedicated driver checks all recommended fluid levels, then starts the car (ahhh, what a sound!), closes and DOUBLE CHECKS the bonnet—and most of a…is patient. Make sure to let SU or Stromberg carbs warm to operating temps. Only now will you be able to hit the road and enjoy your adventure. You can go anywhere provided you have a smart phone, credit card, and AAA.
Recently, I took ownership of this 1966 Turner Roadster. I was contacted by a nice couple who wanted me to adopt the car. I was also lucky enough to sell both my Alfa and MGB just this last week. I just got started on what promises to be a slow and ongoing return to road-ready condition. Phase one through five of the revival of the car has gone well.
