One of only twelve lightweight E-Types ever built on the track.

Jaguar just announced it will be building six more lightweight E-Types. In 1963, Jaguar set out to build eighteen alloy-bodied Jaguar E-Type models, but in 1964 they stopped production having built only twelve. The twelve cars were all purpose-built for racing and included not only lightweight alloy body work, but cast aluminum engine blocks and completely stripped interiors as well. These cars are very sought after today and can bring more than four-million dollars US at auction. Jaguar says they will be continuing production to finally build all eighteen cars for which they allocated VIN numbers in 1963. If you want one, you’ll have to dish out a truckload of money and be a known Jaguar collector, as they will first be offered to Jaguar collectors and racers. We can’t wait to see what comes out of the project and how close to the real thing they will be. We’ll follow up on the story as soon as there are any new developments.
