Here is another cool car we just had to share. This is a very rare 1968 Triumph TR5 that was never sold or marketed here in the states. This particular example was imported from the UK several years ago, and is in for repairs all the way from Texas. Many of you may be thinking: “hey, that’s just a TR250,” and we have to say you are halfway correct. The TR5 was never sold in the USA because it did not meet our emissions regulations, so in order to meet the guidelines, Triumph removed the Lucas fuel injection from the TR5 and added dual Stromberg carburetors, thus making a Triumph TR250. The upside to this is the car now met USA regulations. Unfortunately, this meant the car would produce about forty fewer horsepower.
This is one of just a handful of TR5s in the United States, and the first one we have ever had in our shop. We’re quite excited to have the opportunity to work on such a rare car, but what we’re really looking forward to is seeing how it runs. We’ll keep you posted.
