This year’s Avila Beach Concours d’Elegance was a huge success despite poor weather conditions. The event started out on Thursday night in down town San Luis Obispo outside the historic Fremont Theater. This is a beautiful old theater that provided the perfect setting to kick off the weekend. Some very beautiful cars were on hand including a very original Lamborghini Miura. This is one of the cars that got Lamborghini started and changed the way exotic sports cars were designed and built. Such an excellent car to have on display!
Friday started with a beautiful rally across San Luis Obispo County back roads that took the participants through cool little towns like Pozo and Creston. If you have never been on the back roads around here, it is a must do. Later that night, the participants headed to the Santa Margarita Ranch for dancing, train rides, and barbecue. The ranch provides an excellent setting with a genuine ranch feel and plenty of room for everyone to enjoy.
Saturday began with beautiful weather and an excellent wine tasting tour of the area. Once the tour was finished, the participants headed to downtown San Luis Obispo for a small car show and gathering. The gathering took place on Garden Street which turned out to be the perfect setting.
There were plenty of cool shops to visit like the studio of artist Gene Francis. Gene’s work in one-of-a-kind and is a must see when visiting San Luis Obispo. By this point, many beautiful cars were starting to arrive including several multimillion dollar Ferraris. We were on hand with a gorgeous Jaguar XK120 FHC and a stunning Jaguar XK120 race car.
Our luck changed on Sunday as the rain clouds started to head in. By 7:30 am Sunday, just as we were about to start judging, the rain came. As you can imagine, many vehicles were not brought out of their trailers due to the weather but there were still many beautiful cars including a multimillion dollar Bugatti that made it out to the lawn despite the rain.
All in all the event turned out fantastic and we cannot wait for next year. This event has been growing and getting better year by year and is quickly becoming a major show on the Concourse circuit. We have to give everyone involved a big hand and thank you for putting on such a great event.
I cannot forget to give the beautiful Amanda De Bello a big thank you for allowing us to use the fantastic photos you see here. You can view more of Amanda’s work at her new website.
